She spends all the Christmas money on having it removed. When Homer egts back from work and learns of the day's events, he decides not to tell the family that he doesn't have a Christmas bonus, to stop everybody getting upset. Later at Moe's Bar, Moe notices Homer is depressed. Homer explains his situation and his friend Barney suggets that Homer get a job as a Santa at the local mall. Homer gets the job and begins work. However, Bart is dared by his friends to yank the Santa's beard off. He does so and finds out Homer's secret. Homer explains and Bart understands. Homer receives his paycheck, but is shocked to find it is only worth $13. Barney suggests gambling his winnings at the racetrack. Bart encourages him, so off they go. At the track, they bet on a dog known as Santa's Little Helper, who loses spectacularly. Outside the stadium, Santa's Little Helper's owner kicks him out, and he runs towards Homer. They decide to take him home as a present, and a good Christmas is had by all. Memorable Conversations: Interviewer: Do you like children? Homer: What do you mean? All the time? Even when they're nuts? Interviewer: Hmm. Homer: Uh, I certainly do. Bart: Oh please, there's only one fat guy who brings us presents, and his name ain't Santa. Bart: Ay, caramba! Doctor: Now, whatever you do boy, don't squirm. You don't want to get this sucker near your eye or your groin. Marge: Hmm. I get the feeling there's something you haven't told me, Homer. Homer: Huh? Oh. I love you, Marge. Marge: You tell me that all the time. Homer: Oh, good, because I do love you. I don't deserve you as much as a guy with a fat wallet and a credit card that won't set off that horrible beeping. Girl: I hope you feel better, Santa. Homer [as Santa]: Oh, I will when Mrs. Claus' sisters get outta town. Thanks for listening kid. Lisa: What, Aunt Patty? Patty: Oh, nothing, dear. I'm just trashing your father. Lisa: Well, I wish you wouldn't because aside from the fact he has the same frailties as all human beings, he's the only father I have. Therefore, he is my model of manhood, and my estimation of him will govern the prospects of my adult relationships. So I hope you don't bear in mind that any knock at him is a knock at me, and I'm far too young to defend myself against such onslaughts. Patty: Mm-hmm. Go watch your cartoon show, dear. Notes: Bart's tattoo was supposed to say 'Mother', but Marge only saw the 'Moth' part. This was actually the eight episode to be made, but the producers decided to air it first because of it's Christmas theme. A book was made about this episode called 'The Simpsons At Christmas'. There is no blackboard or couch gag for this episode, because the opening sequence is different. |
